Brenna Fairy

My Granddaughter turned 3 this year. My middle daughter, her aunt lives in the State of Washington and so mailed her gift. I arrived the day of her birthday party. When Brenna opened her gift from Aunt Angela she found a Fairy outfit, because she love Tinkerbell and all the fairies of Pixie Hallow. Since Angela is now living in the Rainy state she had to include Pok-a-dot Rubber boots. So being three one must wear it all, Purple Fairy outfit and Rain boots. The Wings were a little heavy for the fabric of the dress, so I held them up by pulling the fabric a little tighter and using a Clothes Pin. She was calling me from the sun porch and I looked up to see a sweet little Fairy looking at me. I had to have a picture of that! Then when I went into the sun porch she still was looking through the door and I caught her back with the boots and cloth pin. Her mom (my oldest daughter Danielle) said she looks like Altered Art!

Mine is the one on the left of the page, here is a larger photo. I was very excited to see my small piece of Art published.

The Baby Shower & Somerset Studio's Gallery

Saturday, November 22, I was rushing off to a baby shower for a young mother to be. I had to get there early because I made the cake. She was having a boy and they were doing his room in little trucks so the cake followed the theme. I made a little road in the land of plaid, air brushed with food coloring. The night before I had made little trucks and a little baby out of fondant.

I hopped in my van with the car riding shot gun. As I was about to pass my mail box I decided to grab the mail. I was very excited to see Somerset Studio Gallery Winter 2009 in my mail box. I wondered if something I had sent in had made it into the magazine. I really wanted to stop and look but had the shower to attend and the cake to deliver.

I had to wait 2 hours to rip the plastic off that magazine in go the page by page. Then there is was the little Halloween Witch Pocket Watch that I had made. I was so excited to see it there in Full Color, with my name next to it.

Mermaid Mural

It has been a couple of very busy Months. In early November I started a Mermaid Mural on my Granddaughter's bedroom wall. She told me she also needed a fairy, so I will put adding that in the Mermaids hand. The Mermaid is just sitting tranquil on a rock listening to the sea breezes without a care. I used acrylics, added a little some pearl powders to the paint I used on her scales and fins. She looks nicely dimensional in person. When I was contemplating painting her scales, I thought that would take hours and be hard to make uniform. Then I remembered seeing celery in my daughters refrigerator and decided to use that as a stamp. I worked well and saved a lot of time. Brenna loves her. I will be adding the Fairy next, probably in January. They live three hours away, so we always have to make plans.

Halloween

Halloween - Does it get any better than One Night getting to be something that you may never be. A black cat, a witch, a princess, a movie star, spiderman. I usually made my costume the day of. My mother usually started weeks ahead and made us the most elaborate customs. My youngest sister is following in her foot steps. Making wonderful customs for her children months in advance. Now I am happy with making jewelry and borrowing those old customs from my little sister for my Grand-daughter. This year she will fit perfectly into the Tinkerbell outfit. I am very excited to see her in it, but she won't try it today. She is almost 3 and very independant. Playing little cars with Grandpa right now. I better go help him out.

Twister - Wild Weather

Tuesday we had some pretty wild weather. I woke up that morning thinking that is seemed dark and too quite. It stormed off and on all day. That evening, I was getting clothes out of the dryer about 8:15pm when I heard the Tornado siren blow. My husband was talking to his parents on the cell. I yelled in to him to ask if we should take shelter. He just kept talking on the cell. I went into the bedroom turned on the local weather station and folded the clothes. I could see it looked pretty bad. They said there was a tornado on the ground about 10 minutes west of us and we should take shelter. Being the storm chaser want-a-be that I am, I chose to watch out the window instead. The electric went off, but we still had the battery operated radio. About 10 minutes pasted and about a mile or two away to the west, I could see a line of trees, I could see there was something above and behind them happening. It looked like a of darkness and light fighting above the tree line. I said to my husband is that the tornado? It is so calm he said, I told him "the calm before the storm", he gave a little laugh, like I made it up or something. Then he got off the cell phone. I have been out in two tornadoes before, but being in the tornado you don't see the tornado. It wasn't long and the darkness took over. I could see a large funnel shape coming toward us. It was so dark, as if all light no longer existed. But the funnel could still be seen, like BLACK on black. I started praying and kept on praying out loud continuously praying. The wind pick up, but just a little, here, by us. It was going off to the north and I watched it until it was out of sight. I don't know if a minute passed or less before we started hearing the voice on the radio shouting, "there is debris flying all over Edinburgh, and people calling in, reports of major damage through out the town.

It rained a wail after that, friends and family called to check on us. We were fine, we heard the town not so. Slowly people emerged from their homes in our neighborhood and we gathered in our driveway. A co-worker of my husband came from a town south of us. He said he had driven around, there were reports of two tornadoes one just north of us, another just south. Some said they heard it, didn't you?, my husband and I looked at each other, we didn't hear it. We seen it. Later we decided that we probably couldn't hear it over my continues praying. We kept hearing we were lucky. But we know we were Blessed.

Wednesday, No one was hurt thank God. The electric was back up. We went for a drive to check out the damage to our town. Tornadoes are strange. A large old tree here, two feed from it one pulled up by the roots and laying on a truck, another large old tree on the other side of the truck still plated, like nothing happened.

One house like a movie set, front only, the rest of the house completely gone. The house behind that gone, another near by missing a roof. A line of destruction, I guess this is a little like a war zone. Then at the edge of town, a gas station, appeared to be untouched, if not for the face of one set of pumps missing. The night of the storm their was gas spraying out and had to be cleaned up by a hazardous waste team.

The Army base just west of us was hit real bad. We seen the twisted trucks and piles of wood that were buildings, houses.

Storms again last night, more wind here. Passed though quickly, peacefully.

Today June 5th we are so glad to have seen the sun again.

A Rare Look in the Boudoir

A rare look. I have taken some photos after we did the spring cleaning in the boudoir. I usually have such an art mess everywhere that most don't get to see things like this. Clean, dusted and straighten.
I have a collection of shoes, most are the Old Glass and Porcelain styles, but I have been given some of the newer ones as gifts also. I had been collecting them for over 22 years. I have a very short wide foot myself (size 5 wide), so this is my way of buying shoes and not having to wear them. They are all much more comfortable to look at.
I love vintage dresser items, little boxes, hankys, doilies, tiny perfumes, the hat pin ladies.

Spring Cleaning & Making Jewelry

April 18th we had an earthquake. It may not be that big of a deal for some, but when you live in the Midwest it is quite the occasion. For some reason I was already awake and could hear some cracking sounds. I thought it must be very windy, I listened for the wind but there was none. Then the bed started bouncing. And for a second, I thought we must have left the cats in the house last night (we usually put them in the garage, because otherwise they wake us). But it seemed like more cats and bigger than the ones we had. Then I realized it was an earthquake. My husband then announced it was an earthquake and was about to hop out of bed, but I told him it was almost over. I knew that they lasted only seconds and most must have pasted. I had been in one before, when we first moved to Indiana about 20 years ago.

We had thought that there was no damage, but when spring cleaning, we did find ceiling damage, but 2 of the bedroom lights.

In between spring cleaning, I have been trying to also get some new jewelry made. Ankle Bracelet, Charm Bracelet, Earrings, Brooches, Vintage Style Necklaces. I have been making up a large variety these last couple of weeks. I also completed one of the Altered Pocket Watches I had started earlier, but had run into a problem. But it is finished and I love how it turn out, "Seedtime and Harvest".

I thought I wouldn't know how to start

I have always loved art. I sold my first piece of Art at an early age sometime in Grade School. My mother put my Pressed Copper Crying Clown with the Broken Balloon in our Garage Sale and it sold right away. The woman asked if I would sign it for her, on the back so I did. Well my mom not being someone to let dust light on anything for long, many of my art pieces went the way of the Garage Sales.

When in Jr. High, Middle School to the young, I asked to have an extra Art Class in place of my Study Hall. They said yes, it was awesome. I did 2 of every project and one of a friends if I could.

This week I have made Altered Pocket Watches, Kitchen Decor (with pages torn from an old Fanny Farm Cookbook and vintage fruit brooches), an Altered Book Cover, and a few custom pieces of Jewelry.
